Where would Machine pistols, or other automatic pistols be classed? Machine Pistol got left off the list. It requires a chit just like everything else.

As far as how many weapons you can carry, is it the same as last year? Magazine restrictions the same also?
Also what level crafting to you need to be able to carry a machine pistol.

crafting is one way to generate the weapon chits necessary to carry certain weapons.
In other words your AEG is made allowable not by your class of player or skills such as it was last time, but instead it is based on whether or not you have acquired an AEG in the game. This is represented by a chit that you will either carry in your badge or affix to your weapon (such as with a rubber band on the stock)
That chit is lootable, so as to say, you can "take" someone's AEG without violating their personal property. Then, they will have to acquire a replacement by either purchasing it from a trader, stealing one from someone else, or crafting one from parts.
See how this works?

Ok. Makes sense now. Great idea by the way, like it more than a combat class.

I have never played one of these events before and I am wondering will I be able to bring my own AEG and use it? What will I have to do to be able to use it if so?

Read the weapons section carefully:
Starting equipment will be based on what faction you start out in. Military factions will start with a single AEG chit and possibly have easy access to additional chits. If you lose your chit you will lose your ability to use your AEG until you acquire another one.
Chits can be purchased with bottlecaps, stolen/looted, or "built" using the crafting skill

What are the rules gonna be on melee and knives? I know Dave normally doesn't allow them. Melee weapon format will be explained in the main guide, which is being put together now. The short version: Foam on Foam melee weapon combat can occur. We'll use the same system that was used at OP: Old Republic in which a player may may fight using medium acceptable force on all areas of the body except for the head. Torso shots being lethal, arm and leg shots crippling that limb. A player is considered dead from a torso hit, but can sustain his limbs being broken as non lethal. If all limbs are broken, the player will be unable to move and bleed out after 5 minutes without medical care. Knives are not considered melee weapons. Normal knife kill rules will apply. I am specially insured for this type of game combat and i additionally insure dave, thats why we can do it at aftermath but no other time. The weapon limit for all factions this year is 2 guns, 1 foam melee, and 1 knife, and 2 grenades.
